Xpelair 9 inch extrator fan

Such a fan (GX9) fitted in kitchen. An ugly site protruding off the wall into the kitchen. It is on the blink, stays on for about 5 minutes only, shutters do not open . Time to go. I would like a replacement to fit into the cavity and the shutters flush with the wall. Is it possible to do such a relplacement ? Would other, cheaper fans (vent axia ) fit. Would the electrical connections be compatable..? Do I need a specialist electrician to fit? The present one is operation via a switch next to the lighting switch on the kitchen wall. Any help would be appreciated Peter.

Vent Axia will certainly be better, but not cheaper in all probability.

They make domestic, commercial and industrial product ranges.

If you look on their web site at the domestic range, it looks as though the largest they have is 150mm - e.g. Silhouette range.

These would meet your objective of having little protruding into the room.

However, the performance will not be as good as a larger unit.

For that you would need to look at the T series, a commercial grade product. I've fitted one of these in another house and they are very good in terms of performance and low noise levels.

You could also fit speed controller.

The only issue is that the hole required is close to square, not round, which would entail some wall surgery.

This is certainly a DIY job.
