Wottaclot!!

Stupidly I managed to damage my brand new bath, very slightly but very noticeable. It's acrylic and I have chipped the finish coat with a small gooch of about 4mmx2mm right in the middle of the bath floor. Can anyone suggest the best way of repairing it?

Thanks

Gooch. A local colloquialism for a small accident, ignore it.

I thought of insurance but they will probably want to fit a new bath and 1. I don't want the hassle and 2 It's so small bath replacement seems overkill.

I just wondered if anyone had any experience of the bath repair kits that are available and if they are worth the £20 or so.

In the 1920's or early '30's one of the first large reflectors to be built for a mountain observatory was also the largest in the world and about the most difficult to produce -ever. It took years just to cool the quartz it was cast from.

When it was being mounted, several years later, some clumsy oaf dropped a lump hammer on it. It is still in use apparently.

(So is the telescope, taddaaah!)

I dropped, well slid, a tile onto an area of my new bath that had a manufacturing fault. leaving a void and an egg-shell thin surface.

Rather than replace the bath, it was repaired by a company specialising in such work and although if you know the exact spot, you can see a very slight difference in shade, it would never be noticed by a visitor.

It wasn't cheap though, about £100 IIRC but well worth every penny in the circumstances.

Thanks Andy, I'd be interested in the company name if you can remember it. I have Googled for companies like that but all seem to specialise in enamel and not acrylic.

Well the company *was* called Refurb UK but I have just tried their website and it looks as if they are no longer trading. It was in 2000 ! :-{

I've just Googled for 'acrylic bath repair' and there seem to be several kits on offer from Plumber's merchants but I have no experience of them.

Hope you find something suitable, Andy
