Wood burning heaters

What are the relative merits of heaters with firebricks in the fire box and cast iron heaters with no firebricks?

What sort of heater? A little corner-of-the-room thing, or a "whole house" contraption?

Don't know:-)

Cost? I guess sheet steel protected by brick will be cheaper than thicker cast iron.

The manufacturers websites will give the maximum output heat; convection plus radiant so you need to find one similarly sized of each type.

Fitting a boiler instead of the firebrick has a big impact on the heat to the room and may lead to poor combustion due to low hearth temperatures.

Not a lot if the wood is near bone dry (say 12%mc wwb) for damper wood the firebricks keep up the temperature to stop the flames being quenched by a cool surface before they have finished burning.

This would be a freestanding thing in a room, like
