Where do i start

I just purchased a 1950's house, the previous owners had stripped everything out of the house floors, kitchen etc. It also needs the electrics done and the heating looked at along with new windows and doors. Oh lets not forget the paint also. Where do i start Can anyone also point me to any recommended electricians to do a complete rewiring in Marlow Buckinghamshire Regards

No offence, but you start by having a clue what's involved when buying a house in need of a lot of work.

What points should you consider when deciding what to do first? I think you can answer your own q really.

Good thins to consider are:

1) How little of the house can you live in while you fix the rest? This may reduce the pressure.

2) Want to get all the messy stuff done first, eg all chasing for electrics, even if actual wiring and making good is done room by room later?

3) How much money do you have - is it worth farming out some jobs to contractors, especially those that a couple of professional blokes kitted with the right gear can do in 2-3 days but you'd take a month?

Finally, unless you are a man of leisure, and can thus work on it non stop everyday, make a priority list of achievable job-lets, then worry about the first couple and do them. Then worry about the next couple and complete etc., or you'll get depressed, because a list of a few massive jobs that seem to take forever is fundamentally depressing.

Wrong:

1) Fix living room to perfection.

Better (just an example, not necessarily thought out in detail):

1) Strip old wallpaper, 2) Chase for electrics etc, 3) Lift relevant bits of floor if applicable, 4) Install electrics, pipes, whatever 5) Test the above, as far as practicable, 6) Reinstate floor, 7) Make good walls, 8) Clean/sand/whatever floor 9) Paint/paper/finish floor

etc - you get the idea. Each one being a job you can tick off fairly quickly and move onto the next and thus feel you are making progress.

Cheers

1) Rewire 2) New windows/doors 3) Heating overhauled 4) plasterer, to make good any damaged areas from 1, 2, and 3 and to get it ready for 5 5) decorate

Don't attempt to finish one room at a time or it will cost you a fortune, except during the 'decoration process'.
