Where can I get cheapo 750mm worktop?

I need 750mm (depth) worktop to make a, erm, worktop in my garage. 2.6m in length. As most will know, worktop is usually 600mm in depth. I wasted another afternoon at Buy & Queue, Wickes and Focus searching for it. I see many online dealers keep it, but is it readily available in any of the sheds, and for a reasonable price? It needs to be this deep to cover the boiler and dryer.

Failing that, is there another suitable material I could use? I would have just gone for hefty MDF, but I'm setting a sink into it, so thought something with waterproof properties would be a wise choice.

Any advice would be welcome. Thanks

Couldn't you buy the 600mm and cover the bottom with 150mm ply?

Marine ply, or even exterior grade ply, is much more water resistant than formica covered chipboard. In fact chipboard isn't waterproof - when used as a worktop with a cutout it relies on sealants to prevent it from every becoming wet.

Plywood with hardwood edging and a few coats of varnish will be a lot more hardwearing than a kitchen worktop.

Screwfix - excellent - why didn't I think of them, there's a collection point not far from me.

I get the point about marine ply, but it's not so wife-pleasing!

Use 25mm WBP ply - readily available in 1.2 * 2.4m sheets from timbers and builders merchants.

The message from snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com contains these words:

If you're anywhere near Telford I've got several yards of 850mm wide bullnose worktop. It's got a few cabling holes near the back but I've outlets for them or you could blank them or use them or whatever.

I've been meaning to put them on Free Cycle but if anyone here wants 'em first...
