what are they called?

I'm after a thing we used to have in our fireplace at home as kids - its like a liitle hood that fits into the top of the mouth of the fireplace at about 45 degrees to deflect some back into the chimeney if it rollss down the chimney, anyone know what Id be searching for to ask? used to be brass or copper and planished. cheers if you know :-)

I think it called a ............ can't remember. But it was used to draft blast the heat up to the back boiler. I very much doubt that you would be able to get one now.

You are thinking of a damper that caused the heat to go behind the hearth front and go to the back boiler, thus heating the hot water.
