Read my other post. More will stay in the atmosphere, more (probably) in the sea. In some scenarios we shall have torrential rains and long droughts; in others we'll be under a new ice cap. Unfortunately atmospheric modelling would take more computer power than SETI, even if we had the right models to begin with. Douglas de Lacey
how many times has this been talked about, or as you put it 'promised'? And how many times has it really happened? Its not hard to see whats going on.
We dont really know what will happen in 100 years. We have plenty of time to act if things do get drier up, but being on a small island surrounded by sea makes that very unlikely. And in that time we can expect a lot of the the infrastructure to be relaid, old pipes lined and so on, which will cut water waste considerably. If things get bad we might even have to implement a hose ban. Scary stuff.
Mary, he is not showing much sense at all, neither are you. The energy in purifying 1000 cu metres of water is not much more than 1 cu metre. Passing water through filter beds is not a big thing. Using gravity to assist pumps should be used as well.
Some areas, mainly around London, recycle sewage water, so more water down the drains means more water to re-cycle.
Are you asking whether the authorities have cried wolf before? If so, the answer is "Not that I am aware of in East Anglia".
And that is the nub of the problem. For far too long we have assumed that "science" can get us out of any and every mess (see for instance Alec Broers' breathtakingly arrogant Reith Lectures) -- without any reason for such assumptions apart from greed and mental laziness.
AIUI, we may already have gone past the point of no return which could cause the Gulf Stream to collapse. in which case there is no way we could restart it. As I said, experts differ over what might then happen, but none of the predictions are particularly pleasant.
On a related topic I have just had the procedings of DEFRA's 2005 climate change conference pointed at me: you can download the whole book at
In the UK many people dont care about what happens in the future, in present ,Australia is lacking of water, the government ignored this problem until now.
i dont think many of you think about the future, but most of you might want to think about it now, before its to late......
