Washing Machine

The other day I had to move the washing machine. Unfortunately, the other half used the machine, after it had been moved, but without first putting it through on a wash cycle.

The water slopping about in the machine during the move dislodged tons of shit and crap.

The first wash after the move consisted of white shirts. They have all come out covered in blue fluffy bits. They are a git to remove.

If anyone moves a washing machine, I would run it through on a cycle before it is used again for the first time.

Is this a washer / dryer machine? Most washer / dryer combination machines should have the fluff filter cleaned out every so often to stop the fluffy bits getting back in to the clothes.

Washer dryer. It doesn't have a fluff filter that you can get at.

It just has a drain point in the bottom of the machine.

They never are easy to get at. Around the fan housing, usually on the top or back of the drum, you'll find a bottle attachment that catches the water while the machine is in dry cycle. The bottle catches the water before it is pumped out. The bottle and fan housing catch lots of fluff from the clothes and often need cleaned, about twice a year is a good service routine for them, or dependant on the use the drier side of the machine gets.

After moving the machine, it is often the case that fluff dislodges from these housings and bottle traps, and transfers itself onto the clothes during a wash.

The whole assemblies are normally held on with a couple of bolts and / or spring clips, so they're not difficult to clean.
