It might be OK for light switches. I don't move them around that much. And a visitor once complained that she couldn't find the light switch in my toilet. This wallpaper could help :)

Lol

What they've done does seem rather unimaginative. A range of standard designs with the design elements tweaked to fit neatly round things would surely see a much wider customer base.

Do they still exist these days?

I have cleverly designed my lighting so that the light from the next room illuminates the switches in each room. In the same manner a blown light bulb can be replaced by the light in the same or another room. In the case of all bulbs failing at the same time, I have a torch. That torch may be recharged by a shaking motion.

That's an interesting concept. Care to share more details?

What, the torch? LED Shake Torch:

've never had to shake it since it's never gone flat. Just carrying it around seems to be enough.

No, the lighting scheme.

The house is fairly open plan. The lounge has 10 lights, the kitchen/ dining/hall has 10 lights. If the doors are open, there's enough light going into each other room to see inside. Inside each room, at chest height on the opening side of the door is a switch. Isn't that fairly standard? That I had a visitor who could not find the switch in a room only 26 inches wide is merely an indication of that person's intelligence.

When a bulb blows here it invariably takes out the MCB for all the lights so the torch is the standard option. The main problem is finding the torch in the pitch dark.

A torch with an always on LED (one of the always on charge types), one always in the same place, or an emergency exit luminaire could solve that. Or even better, a rewirable fuse. Or lights on 2 circuits, nearly all rooms have 2 circuits available.

Luminous paint on the torch.

Attach to it one of those key-finders that beeps when you whistle or clap.

Or rub it with aniseed and buy a beagle.
