Virgin media transferring some of its customers to Talk Talk

I found the talk talk forum to be just as useless. I had an issue that the phone book had someone else's name for my number so I was getting a load of debt related calls for this person.

It took two months of chastisement on these forums to have my name entered instead, where talk talk's own contributors made promises they couldn't meet. Still, my topic had a lot of hits!

Yep, static IP address and an ISP that doesn't do any port blocking/filtering etc. Like A&A ...

I'm not sure I follow what the problem is with those other address's. Reception by them from you will ( should) be sorted by you having a static IP, a correct TXT/SPF entry in the DNS and a correctly configured reverse DNS record. Assuming you are sending mail direct to the recipients MX machine.

Surely them sending doesn't involve your IP? For the less technical using their ISPs "smart host" is the simplest solution. Don't confuse the email address required to login/authorise the connection to the smart host, with the email address on a mail items envelope or From: line. Some ISPs smart hosts do reject mail if the envelope or From: isn't one of theirs but IMHO that is very bad practice after being authorised and time to find a proper ISP.

When I was transferred to Talk Talk by AOL without my knowledge or permission I lost all my emails. So you had better get them sorted out before you do anything else.

As for Virgin doing what you say. It sounds very unlikely. You are either trolling or being trolled, by the sound of things. Keep up to date with IT news by reading The Register or some such UK based technical magazine.

ISPReview could also help.

The problem is the OP thinks he won't be with Virgin much longer.

The people initially employed by Talk Talk were the worst available at the price they paid. I gather service has improved since then but have never re ad what happened to make that so.

My service from them was absolutely terrible and only slowly improved to so mething worth the money but it put me off having an internet connection for a very long time. I preferred to get my stuff from the local libraries. It was good enough for a while but of course frustrating as hell, just not as frustrating as Talk Talk. Get the best you can afford, even if it means mo ving. Cable isn't all that much more expensive than ... Fuck, everything el se is too much shit. You are a long time dead and even longer offline.

I've just remembered that I couldn't ever get onto their website. The only contact I had with them that I can recall was they took my money from my bank when they wanted it.

Ah, the good old days.

What makes you think your email address will necessarily change?

a lot of people questioning this and tbh it shouold be easy for Talktalk to retain emails on different domains like virgin.net BUT today's email indicates that you will probably lose your email address a year down the line:

"To keep things simple your phone number will stay the same, and for another year your email address will still be managed by Virgin Media."

I for one am discontinuing use of my virgin.net email while I still have time to do it properly.
