Velcro on orbital sanders

I have a Bosch orbital sander that I'm doing some light sanding with (removing flaky paint), and after a while the Velcro is stuffed and won't grip the sanding pads. So I have to buy and fit a new Velcro plate at great cost, and then that packs up too. Are these sanders suitable for the purpose they are sold for? I imagine that all brands are equally bad. Examining the velcro with a magnifying glass it seems that the hooks have straightened out slightly. Why not have thicker hooks or stronger plastic?

I'll be finishing the job with an angle grinder fitted with a flappy wheel, which always works well, but not such a good finish as the orbital sander.

I've got a Metabo with the same arrangement, and I can't say I've had a problem.

I have a Bosch PMF180 multitool, which also happens to be the best detail sander I've ever used. Same problem, Velcro pad doesn't last 5 mins.

My brother hired a giant one for floor sanding. Same problem - the velcro was shagged. We did use it, but it was tedious.

I've never had this problem with a ROS or OS, not even the Rotex which is otherwise a beast.

But the Fein is very vulnerable to this - it is obviously overheating what does it. Especially if you are not using the whole of the pad, but just an edge or tip - in that case, turn the speed down and don't press too hard.

Same goes for the profile sanding attachment for the Fein for different reasons. It's hopeless on full speed as the paper comes unclipped within seconds. It has to be run on a slower speed.
