Varnish not drying

Hi all,

I've made a workstation out of 18mm MDF for someone and on Thurs morning used a wood dye to give colour and create a bit of fake grain. Thursday teatime I applied a coat of clear stain varnish and left it overnight under a ceiling fan.

About 8am today, I applied a second coat of the varnish. While the "wet shine" has gone, it doesn't really seem to be drying and I'm supposed to be fitting it tomorrow. Any thoughts / suggestions on how I can speed up the drying process?

Thanks,

KK

Varnishing over wood dye usually increases the drying time a lot. Rasing the temperature / airflow will help.

Raise the temperature in the room. Get it as hot as possible but leave a bit of ventilation.

Thanks to you and Phil for the quick response, heating now on :-( window closed over and door shut.

Is it worth standing it on it's side to face the radiator?

Just stand it as normal, but keep the temperature of the room hot. Leave the top and bottom of the window open about quarter of an inch to let air flow through the room.
