Vaillant vcw gb 242 Divertor valve jamming - can it be serviced ?

Just in time for xmas, the heatings gone on the blinks and the local parts shop is shut till next year ..

the diverter valve has started to 'stick' mostly fully out so at least the hot water is still working , but it will not actuate when the radiators are 'on'

its moving half way , then lock's ... this morning it actually went the full distance and the heating came on .. now it will only travel half way ... agen ...

if i take it off - is there any way it can be serviced ? ie cleaned ? or do these valves end up with ware ridges that mean its 'worne out' ??

see some posts about de-scaleing them , this has been in service about

15 years

Tnx - G ..

There is a service kit which should be available for about 10-15 quid

be very careful when dismantling, take lots of notes and pictures, it's one of those things which always has one thing which you can't figure out what goes where when you do one for the first time IYSWIM

be warned

other than that, it's not particularly difficult to anyone with a brain cell or two

? assume the service kit is a ' vaillant' only part ??? or are there some after market items ?

This service kit is essentially diaphragms and other washer and rings. Most of it except the diaphragm is generic.

You can also probably make progress with a simple strip down, clean and silicone grease all moving seals and reassemble (make copious notes and/ or digital camera) this is a seriously complex piece of kit.

Or you can get a full diverter valve (likely well under £100 inc.).

You will have to drain the boiler and turn the water off. Full instructions are in the manual.

I have repaired a few using a Vaillant pack

I don't know if pattern ones exist

Ok thanks for info ..

... Well im wondering if a service kit will fix it , as one time its working fine , the next its jammed solid ... the next , its stopped 1 mm short of working the switch ... i assume the service kit has seals and diaphragm ... but dose it contain the moving parts ? I think these .may have some ridges worn on them ?

.. after 14/15 years may be a better idea to fit a new assembly ..when i can buy one ......

the only problem is .. can you get it out from the front of the boiler , ive access to the bottom and the front only ....looks like may have to take the pump out to cleare it ....

tnx
