URGENT (ish) - uPVC door locks

Hi,

Help!

The lock mechanism on my uPVC front door has bust and I can't lock it. The door was installed by Coldseal (now out of business) about five years ago. I've got the lock out and it definitely appears to be the 'core' locking mechanism at fault. No manufacturer's name on the lock so at a guess it's Coldseal own-brand. The unit is sealed shut and I can't see myself getting it apart to diagnose or fix the fault.

How best to proceed? Needless to say, B&Q / Wickes / etc. don't stock them. I don't know whether these are standard-ish parts or manufacturer specific, whether my local locksmith or double glazing fix-it man will be able to assist, whether to nip to the local council tip and see if I can maybe salvage a uPVC door from there and take the lock out of it, etc. etc.

Cheers for any useful advice. No I'm not going to give you my address and tell you when I'll be out. :-)

Nick

Besides that, for a lock to just suddenly give up the ghost is unusual. It might just be that the door has dropped on its hinges and now doesn't meet the catch properly.

Still getting a replacement includes taking the old part with you and the OP was lucky in that respect, having the door openable after the calamity.

Sorry guys, I haven't made myself at all clear. The cylinder itself is fine, it's the locking mechanism around it that's died...sort of like one of these that I've just found...

Telephone a locksmith and see what they might be able to do.
