Upholstery Shampoo Recommendation

I have a Vax Rapide XL carpet/upholstery cleaner that, although it generally works well, won't get the cover on a light beige chair as clean as I would expect.

Most of the stains, in the areas where the head and arms rest, are nothing more than are to be expected over time but some marks on the seat area have an additional bluey tinge to them which makes me think there may be some dye in there from the jeans often worn by the chair's occupant.

Anyone got any suggestions on a better, more effective cleaning fluid than the one supplied with the machine (and which can be used in the machine's automatic solution tank)?

TIA

Whats the fabric? Any idea?

Dye migration is unusual these days,

The detergents supplied for DIY machines are never much good for various reasons. Packaging, distribution & high margin account for more than the content of the bottle. They also tend to be 'arse coveringly' weak.

Look in your local Yellow Pages & find a nearby Janitorial Supplies company. Most will stock a brand called Prochem, specifically you want Extraction Pro. You will have to buy 5 litres, it dilutes 100-1 in use, so it will last ages, cost you around £10 +VAT.

The mutts nuts.

Beige and, according to Management, 'velour' type. I believe the latter is a technical term?

The label gives no/few clues except it recommends 'Chemdry Stain Extinguisher' spray and says the material meets BS4875 for strength and BS2543 for testing (whatever that might be).

I was surprised, especially as the jeans at the time were M&S, but the colour seemed suspicious.

The Vax has a water tank and a cleaning solution tank and automatically adds solution to the water as it is used. Any idea if it automatically dilutes 100-1? Is that a standard dilution?

Ooer! And thanks.

Souinds like Dralon or similar, should clean up a treat.

Doesn't help identify iy alas. Just the testing proceedure.

100-1 is a standard dilution for commercial carpet extraction detergents, very unlikely for a DIY machine. Does the handbook mention the capacity of each tank? If so we could work out the dilution, assuming they empty at the same time. Does the detergent have a dilution ratio on the label?

Failing that, a guess of about 20-1.

No probs.

Fingers crossed!

Nothing on the bottle but the handbook says 'One fill up of the solution tank will last for approximately 4 clean water reservoir fill ups' so I've got some measuring lined up for tomorrow.
