It is just a lot of cables - tidy, would not make it any easier to fault find. You just tug a cable and see what moves at the other end or use a contactless cable tracer.

I seem to remember some rule in the IET book about clipped direct horizontal runs being supported more frequently than two metres....

So this should fail inspection, and given that it is in a hotel, they should probably be closed down until it's fixed.

Did you shop them? Or just fix it - a big cable tie perhaps?

Thought that sort of place had to have fire inspection?

The fire inspection is done with a fork and spoon, by the look of it. :-)

Not any more. The old system of fire inspection and fire certificates issued by the local brigade has been replaced by self-regulation since October 2006.

The previous regime, Fire Precautions Act 1971 was introduced after a fire at the Rose & Crown, Saffron Waldon, on Boxing Day 1969 when 11 people were killed. There were then 38 years with no fire-related deaths in hotels until the Penhallow hotel fire in Newquay, Cornwall.
