tumble dryer motor rating?

Hi all,

Any idea of the typical rating for a tumble dryer motor (early 1980's, if it makes a difference)?

I just got hold of an old Rockwell 10" bandsaw, minus its motor. Far as I can find out, the original motor was rated at 1/2HP and 1725 rpm - it should be relatively easy to pick one up, but then it did occur to me that I have a junk tumble dryer sitting in one of the sheds. I suspect that it's more like 1/3HP (if that) though, and so probably not up to the task, but thought I'd ask here...

p.s. I've barely had any time for usenet this summer - there are now

21100 unread messages in this group! :-(

cheers

Jules

Motors out of TDs and WMs tend to be open frame and the degree of dust from a bandsaw makes them unsuitable.

1/2HP on a 10" saw sounds marginal anyway. My BS sometimes struggles with 1.1hp motor and that has 12" wheels. It is the depth of cut that makes the difference - mine is 8"
