(Totally OT) Combs

Apropos of nothing really, I was standing in the bathroom this morning, and suddenly realised I do not own a comb, and have not done so for years. I doubt there is a comb in the house, and my 14 year old has probably never seen one. Looking at eBay, there are few available, which speaks volumes, eBay sellers existing to satisfy almost any demand.

There was a time when I, like everyone else, always had a comb in my pocket. When did the habit die? With the death of the traditional short back and sides? Combs used to be everywhere. Every shop in every touristy place sold combs, stamped Clacton or wherever. Haven't noticed a comb for sale for years. Mind you, to need a comb, one needs hair :-)

I wonder how many people still regularly carry a comb, or even use a comb.

You really need a jacket. A lot less people wear jackets now - even at work.

I would have thought them far more important for people with long hair.

I have one in my back pocket right now, one next to the hand basin in the bathroom and one in my travel bag. I can't imagine not needing one so long as I have hair on my head.

You haven't been looking. All the supermarkets, chemists, etc sell them.

I have hair, though out in strong sunlight I'm going to have to start wearing hat soon. Don't carry one apart from in overnight bag. Use one at least once a day or I look like I've dragged through a hedge backwards.

I have a comb in mein pocket. How else would I comb my hair, particularly after washing it?

That's what I use. I can't remember when I last owned a comb.

Kenneth Horne has gone to Bona Coiffeur...

Sandy: Not much to work with is there Jools? Julian: We could just huff on it and give it a rub with a shammy leather....

Most of my life I should have used a comb, most of my life I haven't used one because they evaporate. Somewhere there is a comb mountain where they have all gone. Put one in a pocket and it is never seen again, the only ones that stayed for a while were attached with a bit of string to the Sunshade in the car so there was one easily to hand if my appearance was too unruly to confront a customer with.

Comb over. Can't do that if you only have a brush. ;-)

I have two. Only 5 teeth in each of them, but I carry them with me everywhere. You could say I'm quite attached to them.

I have two here. I need a comb, how else would one know if there are head lice about?

Not me. Hair too curly, gets stuck in a comb, use a brush with widely spaced spikes in a rubber base.
