Toolstation - well done

Since Toolstation opened up an outlet in my area, they are usually my first choice .... they are so much cheaper than Screwfix .. often 30% cheaper on hardware items. I'll admit their range is a lot less ... but they EXCEL in approach ... let me give example today ...

ScrewFix ... as usual not all item's in stock, can get them in by Weds ... which means another drive to collect, cost & time on me. Plus at the shop wait in queue to get to counter, you order & pay one person... get given a collection number and then stand in queue for 10 mins in collection area until another person calls your number. (like being at Argos) Also if you want to look at an item first - nope, you have to buy it and then get a refund if it's not suitable.

ToolStation .. no queue ... guy serves you, pay, items brought straight to you by same guy - fast efficient. If you want to see items first to choose no problem .. they simply get them for you.

Today out of the range of bits I wanted, one time not in stock - no problem Sir, if you pay for it now free 1st class post to you - be with you tomorrow - it's out fault it's not in stock.

A company that really has far better approach to serving customers - and better prices.

I've asked to compare two items before purchasing and they have been and grabbed both for me ... then I purchased whichever one I selected

Agree I prefer their system, BTW does anyone know who makes the brightly coloured eInk tablets they use?

I caught a glimpse of one last week ... looks like a customised B&N Nook to me.

Yup, I've had a look at things as well in Screwfix, probably depends on the store/staff attitude.

I find it all a bit swings and rounabouts with them really. Sure the new toolstation in wickes is quicker, but then they aren't usually very busy. Screwfix over the road from them is more established and a lot busier. I reckon when it's busy, the screwfix/argos approach should be more efficient.

I like Screwfix's click and collect service though, which Toolstation don't do (well collect in 2 days or something not much use to me)

Surely not colour eInk, just some tablet or other.

not colour eInk (though colour is available) but it is eInk, the tablets are in bright lime/lilac/pink etc cases presumably each staff member gets a colour ...

"At just after 6.15pm, on Friday, September 16, police were called to the Bay Horse Inn, on Coldwell Lane, following reports a man had been displaying threatening behaviour towards customers.

Anthony Richardson, . . . has been charged with disorderly conduct."

Doesn't sound like the sort of guy I'd want changing my locks.

Would anyone knowingly employ a plonker like this? I think not.

Nook Simple Touch I would guess - they appeared at about the time the NST was reduced to 29 quid, suspect someone in IT made a canny bulk purchase.

Rick Hughes grunted in news: snipped-for-privacy@bt.com:

Actually my experience is that as people are cottoning on to this service, the queues are getting longer at TS. I go there all the time, but it's got to the extend that if I'm really in a hurry, I've started to think, do I have time to risk TS, or shall I pay the extra and go to Wickes up the road? I'd rather they were like Screwfix in that respect.

Yes that's brilliant, I have to say - they do that even for sub-10 items too. I had a widget delivered the other day whose value must have been far less than the shipping cost.

Just back from a trip to the UK where I was interested to see that there is now a TS inside Wickes Twickenham.
