Tool-Net Dealings

Anyone had any dealings with

formatting link

I ordered some stuff on 14th and as of today the status still shows as "warehouse" altho' that could change tonight,of course .

I e-mailed them earlier today to see when it would be shipped ...there seems to be no telephone number that I can see on the website..It's all e-mail contacts .

Maybe I am just being impatient but I am so used to ordering stuff one day and getting it the next .

Yes, I had to talk to my card provider before I got a refund from them.

Same problem - an item that was perpetually out of stock (and likely to remain so), but they'd billed me as soon as I'd placed the order. There was no communication from them, no indication that it might either appear, or that I'd see a refund. There was no reply to enquiries or requests to cancel the order.

Their customer service was abyssmal, even after I'd tracked down a phone number that worked. Seems the old rule is still valid - if there isn't a working phone number on the website, then don't deal with them.

Unfortunately they were the only suppliers I could find that had galvanised oval nails, and yes I didn't get good service either. I did get everything in the end, but it wasn't the fast delivery that we've come to expect from the likes of Screwfix - and i think I had to chase them several times.

Don't intend to go back.

So 8GBP for belt locally plus 2GBP for ten rubble sacks locally, comes to

10GBP.

What colour pills you on?

That wasn't all that I got tho'...I also got glue, masks, silicone .The total was £16 incl dely .anyway as someone else said they have a min order amount and also WTF has it got to do with you what I buy . Apart from the fact that Tool-Net havent delivered as speedily as they should have it suits me to get the stuff delivered instead of faffing around going out to get it ......

Oh! f*ck it, your out of you're tree.

You originally *Just* wanted a drive belt for B&D (gimmick) planer which would have cost you 8GBP locally, now its ended up you paying 16GBP plus telephone calls and the hassle of not recieving the stuff when you where expecting the items to delivered.

Notwithstanding the point about the choice of supplier...

You are missing the point about the cost of time to do the local shopping trip.

For a lot of people, it is considerably more expensive to spend time trailing around local builders merchants. Let's say a round trip, including selection of items takes an hour, and that it is during time that would be used for actually doing the work, then the £8 apparently saved is lost several times over.

I tend to go to builders merchants only when I need to buy large items like plasterboard or sand. For light side items it makes no sense because they can't be relied upon to have stock of what's wanted. I'm not going to waste my time phoning around 5 branches of Travis Perkins to see if they have coach bolts in a certain size.

Since I spend much of my time outside the country, I want to maximise the effectiveness of time at home. To that end, I can plan each project and a materials list for it, select the products to be used from manufacturer and supplier web sites. After a short time, it becomes clear which supplier offers the best quality items at the best price. Quite often I maintain a Screwfix shopping basket for the first few days of the week and add things as I go or think of them. That might be in hotel rooms, lobbies, airport lounges, between meetings, whatever. WiFi is very widely available.

Certainly I include things like rubble sacks if I need them. I am not going to waste time on Saturday trailing around builder's merchants for them. By Thursday I will have settled on an order. I usually choose a guaranteed delivery option unless I don't need the items quickly.

A few ££ more at Screwfix adds predictability which seems OK 19 times out of 20 IME, and accountability if not. That's how I prefer to do business.

Overall, the cost effectiveness is far better than shopping locally. It may or may not cost a few pounds more - on that some things are won and others lost.

More importantly time is used in the most effective and cost effective way and that is far more important.

Ford workers were laid off because their factories were not producing product cost effectively and of the right type for the market. Pure and simple. The reasons may be complex and blame apportioned, but that's the bottom line.

I enjoy the fresh air as well, which is why I prefer not to go to builder's merchants.

Remember that most commodities can be replaced. Time can't. I hope you don't burn too much...
