Toilet waste pipe seal renewal

The seal on a toilet waste needs renewing. Assuming I can remove the pan intact, I presumably just need a pan connector.

It seems to be a straight fit into the pipe. Would I just buy one of these?

In case it's relevant: The house was built in 1973 (as cheaply as possible, by the look of it!), and the toilet has not been changed in any way since then.

I had a plumber in to change our cold water tank and also deal with slight leak round our toilet waste. He used a silicone sealant from a gun. A lot easier than removing and replacing the bowl.

Silicone doesn't work very well unless you can clean and dry the surfaces first. You can bridge a leak with it but it won't last long.

Replacing the seal would probably last 20+ years, going over it with silicone may only last a year or two.
