Tipping movers

Is tipping movers standard practice? If so, how much?

Our situation is that we will be having the house contents moved to the new place on Thursday, then two containers' worth of stuff moved from store a few days later. I would assume tipping the Thursday crew that day, but possibly not a second time if the same crew do the second move? Second crew, second tip?

"Tipping movers"

Some people have odd peculiarities. ;-)

A 6 pack each will do as they do earn a wage.

Not wanting to recreate the intro from Reservior Dogs, but everyone you tip also earns a wage. Personally I tipped my removal men, mostly because tey worked their arses off in pouring rain, stopping to remove shoes each and every time they entered my new house so they didn't ruin the carpet. Most removal guys only work on contract so they don' actually "get a wage" they get paid a one off each time they work.

I give a tip when the service is particularly good, so to the OP, if they are good then yeah, go ahead and tip them.

Not really and no more than 45 degrees from vertical.

I gave mine £20 (eight years ago) because they'd worked hard even though by that time I was seriously pissed off by the company over its charges (finished up going on Radio 4 You & Yours and getting a refund).

Just make them decent tea or coffee when they want it - I suppose you could get some biscuits and buns in too if you really wanted to show your appreciation.

Thanks to everyone for their contributions. We'll give them tea/coffee, and maybe a few beers to go when they've finished.

I came home during our move and found the wife in her lingerie....

"what's all this?" I said.

"well you told me to give the head removals guy 20 quid and f*** the rest", she said....

..sorry - old joke, couldn't resist....
