Strange Cupboard

Called in to give an estimate on the way home, three bed semi in a reasonable area. Nice lady in late 50's, obviously quite religious judging by the various icons/pictures knocking about, just moved in a week ago.

Standard 'moving in' jobs list as we wandered about the house, until we came to (what had been) the airing cupboard.

" I don't know what they have done in here" she remarked as she opened the door.

Entire interior lined with heavy duty aluminium foil, three batten lampholders above three slatted shelves :-)

She was shocked almost to the point of hysteria when I told her why I thought it had been done :-)

You need individual 20A supplies to do it properly.

And airing cupboards are too small for a proper harvest.

Customs and Excise did a swoop on a converted farm building locally.

They were disappointed to discover it was heated to protect stored costumes:-)

What has this entire missive have to do with D I Y - and what have the facts in the first paragraph to do with you anyway - or don't you believe in client confidentiality?

After reading this (and other posts that you have made), if I were looking to have some works done (and a fairly large raised balcony deck is being considered), I certainly wouldn't be looking to employ your firm to do them now (and I live within your area by the way and have actually taken a look at your website after it was recommended by a client of yours).

BTW, there is more than one reason for the set-up you described in your last paragraph (and all are perfectly legal), but I suppose your life must revolve about sensationalism - a bit like the tabloid press!

It has nothing to do with DIY, its just mildly amusing to the regulars here. And since I haven't named the client or given her address, client confidecialty doesn't come into to it you idiot.

OMG! My life is over.

I don't think I'd want to work for for a f****it like you anyway.

Why don't you just FOAD?

*Ahem* scuse me but shouldn't you extract your head from your arse? Is your raised balcony to support your raised ego? Do your neighbours refer to you as "The Major"? Is this your first usenet post? Jesus H friggin Christ.

Dave would be well advised to steer clear of your jobs, they'd never be completed to a suitable standard (by anyone).

Dave, can you spot, or smell this type when you visit to give an estimate?

I too, see nothing that gives anything away about the clients confidentiality.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "ARWadsworth" saying something like:

Eh? Bollocks.

Bollocks.

I suggest you look into micro-harvesting.

Dear Mr Williams Your honesty in not posting this anonymously does you credit but could I respectfully suggest that perhaps you may have jumped in a bit hastily in that there is absolutely no breach of confidentiality of the client in this post? Even, supposing by some complete fluke, one of the readers of this e-group were to guess (not prove) the identity of said, mid-50s religious lady, somewhere in the area, so what? She has moved in and the allegation (implied not proven) that her house

*may* have been used for the inferred process does *her* no harm. You may have every right not to like the tenor of his posts and the MH's forthright terminology but at least give that as the reason (or whatever other reason you care) for not using him but, for sure, it is not a lack of confidentiality in *this* case. Personally, I would judge the worker by the technical competence of the posts and, in most cases, he is dead right. I have experience of several thousand builders/handymen in my work over the last 40 years and the MH is a cut above most of them by a country mile. Chris George

Posh new docks bit, some residents with an inflated idea of their own importance. Sound like T Williams? I think so.

Either that, or T Wiliams lives in the seedy end of Luton (Chatham, not Beds.)

That may be so.. but to tell a potential customer to FOAD in a public forum is hardly a recommendation.

I wish the builder of my house had told his customer the owner/designer/paymaster that he was an idiot to have the main roof supports sitting on a lintel over the middle of a big window cos then i wouldnt have the headache of surveyors etc and trying to suss out how to make it safe...
