Stop with the political stuff.

Ok I know nobody cares a jot if I KF them . As is I have KFed no-one in this group but I feel I have to to weed out some of the OT chaff on here. Harry I'm looking at you.

I have seen politics ruining many groups, even in quiet times do not post political stuff as those who happen upon the group see all these political posts and think this isn't a DIY group at all it has become (like so many others) a political group and so they don't post. No incomers means no new blood means the death of the group.

There are gazillions of groups who deal specifically with politics use them or if (unlikely as this is) you cannot see a group that deals specifically with your particular interest make one (not that hard and I am sure it would be fairly easy to find a "how to" via Google).

Are you making a political point here Soup?

:-)

Agreed. Harry is worth a whole kill file. There is a difference between political and hate, or when someone has obviously lost the plot.

Rods posts are automatically marked as read, low value.

On others, ye just need to be more handy with using the Kill Thread key, K in Thunderbird.

OT/TOT works OK.

Not sold on a political Stop directive. This is a lively place.

Well there is a difference between political awareness, and political single minded idiocy, which is why both harry and plowperson are in my kill files. Naked bigotry ceases to be amusing after a while.

Rod is a waste of time, nothing remotely interesting seems to emanate from him.

Exactly. Frankly some of the D-I-Y is a bit detailed and dull if its a problem you neither have, nor have any information on.

I seem to have 15 groups I get posts from. Coming back from TescOS this morning I see over 120 posts here and none in the other groups.

So were all agreed, then. Political posts are fine if prefixed "OT" and help to keep the group a lively place in which to learn about controversial developments the mainstream media don't want us to find out about.

I think that is where I stand. DIY is itself political in terms of Part P and building regs etc etc.

And all threads drift over time.

This just happens to be a place where practical people with brains exchange the sort of ideas blokes have always exchanged in sheds and bars and workshops. Sometimes its about practical work, sometimes its not.

Uk.sheds is really what it should be but its not:)

You will know that is not quite what was suggested by . My preference would be to avoid any political threads (and yes, I'm guity of being drawn-in to the airshow thread) but the forum is un-moderated so people will continue to do what they want.

Absolutely. Seen it happed elsewhere and it will happen here. Sadly, the worst offenders are so much up their own arse, they don't care. They need any outlet for their bile.

The point is though, that if you just look or open threads that you are interested in, the fact that trolls and off topic messages are there is of a very minor irritation to me at least. I guess if just them being there is a niggled then kill file the person starting it, but it is a slippery slope as sooner or later many other normal users will reply and then you have to decide if you want to add them to your kill file or not.

The chance of stopping the odd off topic or political thread is probably nil. Brian

Of course we never ever get anything like that from you with socialism, the EU or immigrants, eh ?

Yes everything has a political aspect but you know that is not what I mean

Thread drift (in my eyes) is fine

I would say the shed is for the 'banter down the pub" stuff. This froup should be about DIY .
