stainless splash back

Kitchen job. Any experiences on stainless cooker splash backs?

Particularly keeping clean.

I see Screwfix do a modestly priced one on MDF.

My real problem is that the cooker (electric) needs to stand a few inches forward of the wall and slide back to release the neighbouring under counter fridge. I had in mind folding a sheet metal shelf to support a row of tiles. However, the cut steel edge would rust and the tiles be vulnerable to cooking utensils.

Stainless was the next thought and online suppliers will do delivered cut to size. I suppose I could fold 1.2 mm sheet and do a small return to make the edges safer.....

Installed an Ikea (SS on mdf) one and it's been fine in the sense of cleanliness but it's suffered a fair bit from being scratched by pan handles and stuff. Although that's probably because our Induction hob goes almost back to the tiles ;)

We've had one of these for 5+(?) years. Absolutely no problems and it looks good.

I've used a sheet of Aluminium in the past.
