Well wet wood is much easier to turned than dried wood. Not sure how that would relate to log splitting.
Fresh
Fresh, definitely. And they'll season quicker.
The three Ash trees I've turned into firewood so far were done in the manual (hydraulic) splitter green and they seemed to go ok.
FWIW, I believe Ash (is one of the few woods that) can be burned green, although I'm guessing it would burn better when seasoned.

Quite correct, ash will burn well when green - 'seer or green, fit for a queen'. It will also split better, and cut easier, when green.
In my experience splitting of all timbers is easier when green. Some timbers become rather hard to split when seasoned. Beech is almost impossible to split seasoned, green just touch it with a splitting axe...
