I'd prefer it cheaper if possible as I might want to buy quite a few lengths . I had thought of Pipe Insulation but I think the stuff above might be denser than pipe insulation and grey seems to be the norm for the pipe stuff and also it is split and I'd prefer it without a split

If anyone knows of a source that would be most helpful.

Without knowing what it's for, difficult to suggest. You could search for "air con pipe insulation" which is closed cell foam with no split, and comes in long lengths.

I did actually say what it was for then decided it wasn't needed .Should have kept to my initial thoughts . I'm making a rod carrier for fishing rods to attach to a car .basically a Glaziers Vacuum Device with a piece of 22mm plastic pipe fitted on top and I want the foam pipe to cover the plastic pipe to offer protection to the rods . Usenet Nutter explained :

Most seem only to be partially split, a thumb needs to be run down it to get it to split completely - that is so it can be slid along the pipe without splitting it, should you need to.

Hm. I was thinknig that was cheap until I saw the length - 305mm/1' which makes it close to £12 for 2 metres..

Navitron sells Armaflex in 2m lengths in 3 different wall thicknesses.

a 2m length of the thin stuff (19mm wall) is £6.16.

Cheaper than screwfix which works out at £9.98 but you need to buy a pack of 32!

Armaflex works at higher temperatures which (I'm told) that standard grey stull melts at...
