Slurry Dash.

I would like to use the old fashioned Slurry Dashing on my house walls. Does anyone know the correct mix etc and method of preparation and application. I look forward to hearing from you guys/gals. TIA.....

Are you talking about Tyrolean Finish?

It comes in ready cloured ready mix powder. You use a hand cranked applicator to throw it on. It gives a stippled effect similar to a very rough cast masonry paint.

Is'nt that 12 pints of bitter and 6 bags of peanuts, then bend over, rear to the wall......

I helped a plasterer do some slurry dash on my house a few years ago Tom. The mix was quite strong - 2 or 3:1 sharpish plastering sand/cement, with pea shingle added to taste. It depends if you are trying to match an existing finish like we were. I can only suggest trial and error until you're happy with it.

You need to make the mix quite sloppy, a bit thinner than readymix concrete. He used a stiff nylon hand brush (as in dustpan and brush) to flick it onto the wall out of a bucket in his arms. You have to flick it on really hard from about 18" away. As you probably guessed, much more ends up on the ground than on the wall.

Oh, make sure you mask or cover up everything you don't want covered in slurry. It goes everywhere. I've got the only car in Britain with a pebbledashed roof ;o)
