Slightly OT - how to include a photo in a new post

Sorry for my computer illiteracy, but I have a problem I want to seek advice on where a photo or two is going to be the only way to properly explain. Would some kind soul please explain how to go creating a link to the photos that I can include in my post?

  1. Get an account at
    formatting link

  1. Upload your pictures.

  2. When you've uploaded all your pictures, click on the "Your Stuff" button in the blue ribbon at the top.

  1. Click on the picture you want to refer to in your newsgroup message.

  2. Copy the contents of the box labelled "Direct Link for Layouts" and paste it to your newsgroup message.

Simples.

You sign up at a photo sharing website such as photobucket, tinypic, etc

formatting link
your photos to the site.

The site then gives you a link which you can include in your post so people can see your photos without having to sign in.

formatting link
is very simple if you don't already use flickr or any of the other sites (or don't want to). Just copy the links it creates into your post on here.

Just click on

formatting link
don't need an account if all you're after is temporary storage for a few days anyway. As I've never used it for anything else I'm not sure about the other options

On the opening screen it should show UPLOAD IMAGES with a text box and a browse button. Just press the browse button, and work your way through your directories until you find the image file you want to upload

Then click on UPLOAD NOW

After its uploaded the picture it will eventually appear, along with 3 or 4 URL addresses.

You can copy and paste them all, but I only ever use the shortest one. As that shows the image on its own rather than the image embedded on the TinyPic page.

I don't find that part particularly intuitive for beginners, but you can always paste the link into an e-mail and send it to yourself to see if it's working.

Indeed. The actual explanations are totally confusing

I sometimes post a link on alt.test, if its for posting on a newsgroup just to be sure.

I've never quite worked out why anyone would deliberately choose a link and format where their picture was embedded in a Tinypic page. Rather than just to the picture itself. Which probably explains why I'm not an internet millionaire.

I use

formatting link
- dead easy, no account needed, pictures seem to stay there for ever.

If it's just for temporary use, IE you want to share a photo or diagram with this group, or a link to send to friends, you don't need to sign up for anything, just go there, upload your picture, copy the resulting link and post it, but it doesn't stay up for more than a few weeks.

If people keep looking at a tinypic picture it will stay there, maybe for a year or more. I posted this in October last year:

That is more than enough for me.

What is it?

It's a hidden door in a tiled wall so a plumber can get to the pipes in the wall. It's held on by magnets, and can be grouted to make the door invisible. Unfortunately if you don't have a label on the door, the plumber will smash another hole nearby.

It's going to on for another 6 months now!
