Shower pump and duty cycle

My stepdaughter's shower pump developed a leak. When it was replaced I took the opportunity to dismantle the reject to try to find out where it was faulty. It turned out to be one of the seals where the motor shaft enters the pump housing. From the spec on the label attached to the pump I find the following:

30min Rating 30% Duty Cycle

Am I right in thinking that this means it should be operated for at most

30 minutes and then off for a bit more than an hour? (Grandson spends "hours" in the shower according to his Mum?)

TIA Frank

That is how I would interpret it. Usually this sort of rating arising from the construction/design of the motor rather than the pump itself.

Maybe a timer fitted to the pump circuit would dissuade the Grandson from such wasteful behaviour.

No. A timer operating a valve and cutting off just the hot water would be much better!

I would have thought that in most cases a pumped shower would empty the hot tank before reaching half an hour anyway.

I was just thinking that. Maybe they have some kind of continuous source of hot water. Brian

Yeah but, the usual source then is a combi which wouldn't be pumped. I just think they have a large tank and perhaps a rather cheap/low output pump.
