Screws/Raw plug advice required from DIY ol'timer

I presume that is AWG or American Wire Gauge... there is similar system used here called SWG or Standard Wire Gauge which you often see used on wire specs for solder wire or other wires used in the electronics industry. Not sure why power distribution tends to almost exclusively use square mm designations - perhaps because it is simpler to calculate current carrying capacities given that.

I don't know if this was by accident or design but if you measure the head diameter of a woodscrew in 32nds of an inch and subtract 2 you end up with the screw size. E.g. a no. 8 woodscrew has a 5/16 in. dia. head
