Just having some frames fitted and will need to re-fix roller blinds to the frames. Many people seem to avoid putting screws in - is there a reason? If not - what sort of screws are best?

No, other than making sure you avoid any hidden reinforcement bars, all the door/window hardware will be screwed on.
Ones with a coarse pitch, e.g.
I use either Screw Tite from TS or Turbo Gold from SF.
Any old chipboard screw works for me but I prefer to drill a pilot hole first

Clean the edges of the hole to remove any burs and fill with white silicon sealant does quite a good job of hiding old screw holes.
