Screwfix Rads. Any good?

Hi,

I want a 600X800 double. Screwfix seem to have one at reasonable price. Anyone care to comment on how good their rads are?

Thanks

Roger

I bought one last Autumn, it was fine. Obviously I can't comment on long term performance.

was in BnQ yesterday and they had a 600 * 800 for £26, I'm pretty sure it was a double

not really an answer to your question but bear with me - I'm trying to help ok?

I've just bought a few radiators from discountedheating.co.uk they have all sorts of rads, I wanted a tidy double and chose the stelrads as they come factory fitted with top vent and sides, they're pretty cheap but work well and are rather smart. Similar in style to the screwfix but a slightly better performance and a better quality finish.

here's the tip: get the price from the discounted heating website then visit your local plumb center who will happily match the price for you, after all, it's them that the website use as suppliers and delivery people.

an 800X600 rad from that price list is:

stelrad double panel, double convector (4728 btu) = 64.62 inc vat (with factory fitted top grille and sides)

stelrad double panel, single convector (3671 btu) = 49.35 inc vat (with factory fitted top grille and sides)

myson double panel, double convector (4700 btu) = 64.63 inc vat (round top radiators)

myson double panel, single convector (3695 btu) = 50.53 inc vat (round top radiators)

anyhow, take a look for yourself:

Replaced all the rads in my house with the Screwfix K2 rads (double rads with double fins). They work well and I would recommend them. My only problem was that a number were damaged(small scratches mostly) when they arrived. Screwfix were good, and I would recommend the Rads, although I have only had them for just under a year so I don?t know how they will run for the years to come.

The problem with damage was down to the bubble wrap which covers most of the rads, with cardboard on the corners.

I notice their 'doubles' only have the output of a double panel, single convector. Check with Grahsms for their price on the equivalent Stelrad item and providing you get the trade discount (quite hard not to :-) it is cheaper.

The rads are good value for money.

However they get so bumped around in delivery which means that s/fix will send you another which is also .... etc.etc.etc.

I used a couple of them recently. All in all I was pleased with them. Visually they look very much like the Stelrads (and may in fact *be* stelrads for all I know!). Nice enough finish, arrived well wrapped up with no chips or dents etc.

The top and side panels clip off. The double panel it nicely designed at the top so as to allow room over the fins to be able to get a good grip on the joining pipe which makes for more comfortable humping about.
