Scale Wizard (limescale inhibitor)

I do not want scale, but even more so, I do not want to clean the showerhead and flush the system for 30 minutes and refit - only for the missus and me to have one shower each, and then need to start the whole cleaning process again. I will reiterate, the scaling still happens, only it does not build up on the element as it normally would.

The scale is released through the system slowly, mostly as little specks which fit rather too conveniently in the holes on the showerhead thus causing it to piss out at stupid angles rather than on top of the person standing underneath it.

I had thought about fitting a filter to the hose but imagine that this would block even quicker than the head, causing the shower unit to overheat and cut out.

Can you do that in English or is Gibberish the limit of your "talent"?

This one needs to be tagged.

Fit a filter just after the device then it grabs it all in the system. It is doing what it is supposed to do. Spirovent do fresh water filters.

If you're going to be pompous, at least make the effort to write grammatically.

(The correct phrase that escaped you was "You should have RUN with it longer").

HTH.

Sounds like your mains supply is unusually hard.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember snipped-for-privacy@googlemail.com saying something like:

I fitted one to my central heating system and it keeps spewing out pound notes. Bargain!

Not especially hard, but hard all the same - central South Coast.

Our local shop (a reptile specialist) used to sell it, in tiny bottles for putting a nice polish on yer' python.

I bought several and handed them out to pointy-haired managers and sales people, when needed.

It doesn't work by chemistry though, it works by Sympathetic Relational Vibration (or somesuch homeopathic nonsense). Ask them about the chemistry and they just wriggle - the claim is that the composition remains unchanged, but the scale's "inclination" to crystallise is changed.

Obviously its crystal energy is subluxated by the sympathetic harmonic vibrational field. :-|

Dunno about the stock number but blue tapered canister thingy. Dunno about the price either - I bought 10 when they were on offer at £20 ea and still got a load :-)

As for refills I think one should be able to get the dilithium crystals elsewhere and refill the cartridge (it's just a plastic tube with a screwed end cap). However I haven't been fitting them long enough (just over a year) to know how long they last. They do have a load more crystals in them than the combimates though.

Only problem with them is they're a surprising PITA to fit: they have 3/4" BSP female connectors and come with 3/4" BSP M x M plastic adapters. Don't even think of fitting anything else: it's *ever* so easy to cross-thread them. Nowadays I use 3/4" bath tap flexible tap connector hoses to connect onto them, but even then one has to drill out the end of the plastic adapter which is otherwise too thick-bore to mate with the tap connector end: a conecut is the biz for doing this.

I think the issue (as explained by combimate) is that the crystals are a lot more soluble at higher temperatures, so try to keep the inhibitor cool for longer life.

Damn'. OK.

Maxie, at least I have a home and it is increasing in value. Foreclosure in Watford Maxie? Sad I know. Very sad Maxie. Are you in sheltered accommodation? My sympathies go out to you.

I've had a half-bag (refill size) of the sodium polyphosphate crystals suspended in my cold tank for the past five months and it's lost about

1/3 of its starting weight, so very slow dissolution rate. As to efficacy - who knows? Certainly, it works via the canister app, but in a tank, it's too early to say yet. I suspect it is working, as the soapiness of soap is definitely enhanced.
