Room 'Stat or not???

Hello folks,

A question for the panelists; a two up, two down cottage is being renovated with a new heating system [1] :

1) 2 zone UFH on the ground floor controlled via 2 room 'stats. 2) Radiators in each of the two bedrooms with stats on them. 3) Staircase rises from living area, no doors at the foot.

Q: Is there any point in fitting a room stat for the radiator circuit, and if so, where ???

[1] Oil boiler, megaflow, 3 zone S plan (UFH cirucit, Radiator circuit, & DHW)

TIA Tim.

How will you provide boiler interlocking without a roomstat?

It's not acceptable now to rely on the boiler stat cycling when the radstats are all closed.

There are alternatives to a roomstat but they usually cost more for little extra benefit.

You'd be barmy to not use a room stat. TRVs are affected by the rad temp as well as room temp, so theyre not properly thermostatic. No room stat means energy and money losses, and a stats only a fiver new.

Yes.

Best place would be the master bedroom.

And you don't want a TRV on the radiator in that bedroom.

FWIW I have two CH zones - upstairs and down with stairs out of the living room and I find that in spring and autumn the bedroom heating is rarely on.

Thank you all.

I would clarify that on the landing at top of stairs there are 3 doors to bedrooms and bathroom so locating a stat here is not going to sense anything helpful interms of bedroom temps, so siting it in a bedroom could be the way to go.

Yes but I would fit two and zone both bedrooms. You can get nice timer+stats these days.

It would have to be in the coldest room.. get a wireless one and move it about.
