Replacing Soffits / Fascias (is FasciaMania okay)

Has anyone had any experience of FasciaMania in the midlands? Are they any good and are they worth it?

far as I can tell, they are expensive, but they are good.

I need to replace the facia/soffit (about 8m) on the side of my house.

They are quoting around £1700 or about £1200 if I get it done when they want me to get it done and if I stick a 'done by FasciaMania board' outside of my house for 3 weeks.

Also, if I do the front of my house, I am looking at £2500 (or £1700).

I'll be looking around elsewhere as well. The sales guy was saying that FasciaMania have virtually no complaints. Does anyone here disagree with that?

Also, what kind of price range should I be looking at?

Thanx

Why not do it yourself?

Firstly how do you know they are good? If you do, why are you asking on here, or are you just asking if the quote is about right? Don't forget that a sales person is just that, a SALES person. Depending on how a sales person working for any company is employed will depend on what you are told in order for them to be paid. That quote sounds excessive as I have been quoted that to do the front, back and side of a house for £1250. Some companies will rip you off by nailing bits of plastic over wood, so watch out and make sure you understand what you are agreeing to. Other companies will quote on the low side and end up adding extras along the way by claiming parts of the roof is damaged. You need to watch for con merchants. For just 8m you would be looking at around £500, and a lot less if you bought the materials yourself.

Self recommendation is no recommendation at all. Your best bet is to do what you are doing the most expensive price does not automatically mean the best job worth checking with independant gazing firms too. If you are good up a ladder (better to hire and use a tower) have a peep at

and then provided the timbers you are attaching to are not rotted ( I suppose you have had these folk round doing a survey before quoting a price?) see if you are getting a fair deal on materials

(8 metres is not that expensive even with cappings and joints) The question is- is there a £1000 of labour in the job or even £1500 Derek

Thanx for that Derek. I want this done professionally, as it is not something I want to do myself. I just figured that those on the d-i-y or bargain groups would have an indication of the going rate for a reasonable job.

I must be barmy here, but isn't this a job that should take say half a day, maybe a day? So, a few hundred pounds including materials, max. Why not get a quote from a reliable local builder?

Had my extended semi done by a *very good* local supplier, cost me just over GBP 2000. You should be able to get it done for less.=20

Look at houses in your area, which have had it done, and ask who did it and if it was a good job.

If this is a straightforward job using ladders, and no scaffolding required, then, as you say, that firm is expensive. My mother-in-law recently had far more upvc work done than you need, on a dormer bungalow, for about £1,000, including some painting of window frames and masonry. This was by a two-man firm - the fitter also came out and did the estimate, which reduces overheads. We also got an estimate from a larger firm that employs someone just to do the estimates - they wanted £1,200 just for the upvc work.

Sounds like a rip off to me. I had the whole (detached, 2 sides plus 2 gable ends) house done for about the same amount. Find someone local who works locally and look at their previous work.

Thanx for that to all else who replied. The sales chap said that they would need to put up scaffolding. They said that their minimum charge was £1000 + VAT before its worth their time. I figured that I might try and get all three sides done to my semi for that price and I should be okay (2 gable ends plus one side of 8m).

Haggle. If you really want it done by them keep telling them it's too much. Eventually they'll find that they have a "cancellation" and just to keep their men busy they'll do it for you at cost - or some other load of bullshit. It'll still be too much. If you find a small, local company you'll probably get a better price and a good job to boot - they need your recommendation more than the big boys do.

This is a salesmans tactic to trick you into thinking you are getting a special deal. At thoes prices they dont give a damn about when you get it done or some embaracing board on the front of your house. The people who used to do PVC windows are moving into facias and soffits now the window market is saturated. Same old tricks! Expect the salesman to get 1/3 or so of what you pay. Also the fitters resent the salesman getting so much while they do all the work so how good a job will they do?

PVC facias quickly start to look scruffy and if you only get the side done it wont match in. PVC works well for soffits especialy if you need to add ventilation, I'd get a builder to replace the facias with timber (materials £50) and put in new soffits (materials £50) , probably get the side done for 500.

Yes, I figured that it was a trick to draw me into committing on the evening.

Thanx for that. I'll be sure to get a quote with it all done at the same time.
