Replacing DHW expansion tank - diy job?

My Ariston Genus 27+ boiler (with internal DHW storage tank) has started leaking water out of the overflow, and on investigation the expansion tank for the DHW has failed - I connected a pump to see if it needed pressurising and water spurted out.

It looks fairly simple to replace it. I consider myself competent in diy although I have never done anything major to a boiler. Am I being too ambitious? Is it possible for a non-professional to get the parts?

I'd goto my local plumbers supply shop, and check out the cost of the parts, then decide if to proceed. The good ones will also be able to give advice on the difficulty of the job.

pressurising

I'd recommend getting an engineer on this one. For one, they have correct measuring gear to check everything after the replacement. Not something the average DIYer has at hand.

pressurising

What do you mean by the expansion tank? The system pressure vessel? The

27+ has an integral unvented cylinder. I think there is one on that too. Which one?

The main problem with swapping an expansion vessel is access. Some boilers require removing from the wall, whereas others allow the vessel to slide out. To avoid any difficulty the usual solution is to fit an auxiliary vessel to the radiator pipework in a suitable position elsewhere on the system. "Robokit" and others are suitable kits for this job and yes you can do this if you can make joints in the pipes

Good idea.

To o/p, are you sure there is a relief valve & expansion vessel on the DHW side too?

I'd have no qualms about doing this job myself, particularly if you take the advice of leaving the faulty one in place, as long as it is just the relief valve blowing off and not really a leak.

I've heard that Ariston spares can be difficult to come by but a quick google finds these guys:

, no mention of the vessel but they say to call if you don't see what you want.
