1600 for a new system and rads etc. is an astonishing price that probably wouldn't even cover parts these days. The rads, valves, pipework, boilers, thermostats etc. all add up.

However, 2800 quid to replace a boiler is very steep, unless there is some serious rejigging needed, such as replacing a single pipe system with twin pipe or suchlike.

Sounds like you've gone back to BG. Try some local firms.

would. just. many variables.

it's an average price /if/ you can get anyone to do it. back boilers are a PITA. I know someone who's done up 3 houses in the last 6 months and each time he's paid £2800 for a new CH sysyem: glow worm combi + 6 rads. he found out my BiL was a gas engineer and asked me to get a quote.

BiL won't do a full system for less than £3500

I can get him to swap a boiler out and fit 1 new rad and 8 TRVs for £100 :o)

Last year, I had my backboiler replaced, 1 rad moved, new HW cylinder, CH new pump........got about 7 quotes ranging from =A32500 to =A34500 (last one was BG) all the rest were local......went with the =A33100 quote it took 3 days as the backboiler was a pig.

So many variables come into this, even the area you live in. We've been renovating my mum's old victorian mid-terraced house in Preston, Lancashire and this is what we paid four months ago (for a proper CORGI registered guy to do it):

  • install complete new central heating system (Alpha CD32C boiler and 7 rads)
  • remove three old gas fires, supply and fit two new ones and make good
  • plumb and fit gas hob
  • "wet" plumbing in kitchen, ie, plumb sink, waste, and plumb for washing machine
  • supply and fit toilet and washbasin, plumb existing bath and plumb electric shower

all completed to a superb standard and all for £3620 :o)
