Replacing and relocation of Boiler

My Potterton Nettaheat is on it's last legs...

It's also in a "naughty" position....

When I bought the house - I did not realise - the boiler is actually behind a washing machine in a fitted kitchen, embedded in the wall. Access - as British Gas are currently finding out - is very difficult.

Anyway, it will have to go. And it will have to be relocated.

The BG man wreckoned about 3k for the whole job with new boiler in loft. (House is three bedroomed Victorian Semi - 7 radiators)

Is this price right ? Seems a bit high to me ?? Is it better to get someome to do the whole job including sourcing of boiler ? Or I buy the boiler myself and get someone to fit it ???

Thanks.

It all depends on what they are going to do and what they are going to fit. Will it be a combi? if so you need to think if you actually want one!. Think about your hot water needs.

Remember-you can have it cheap or you can have it right, you can very rarely have both, although i can because i have been in the inudstry for 25 years..

Is it "legal" to fit anything else?

Bother, I mis-replied. If I want to replace my old boiler, can I have a *non-condensing* one. That's probably what I meant. AFAIK the only reason a non- condensing one might be fitted is that it's not possible due to various things to do with the exhaust. I'd love to hear that it's not so.
