Re: Result!

It was sweet revenge when he returned - I've heard some rather amusing stories about his first day back in the office....

A point you could only make by snipping all context. Grow up.

You're funny, but not in a good way.

It's not in Italian, of course.

I like Tchibo. Their non coffee tat is good, too.

Can you share? :)

Probably, but most would be meaningless without knowing the politics and history, or even the people.

Suffice to say there were a lot of 'blue' words and people being escorted from the building at very short notice.

Also a great company to work for - they treat us really well, give us some nice perks and it's generally good fun.

Exactly, which is why their model has little attraction in the UK.

95% of business is done in places that are not Aldi, Lidl and Netto

I think you my lose this one - as I suspect you don't know what TOG does for a living.

Fair enough.

Ah, I can imagine.

Aside from the fact that the above figure is obviously picked out of thin air - they have a UK business model that works very well.

They know they'll never challenge the 'Big 4' for people doing a big weekly or monthly shop, but have set themselves up very sucessfully for

2nd destinations, which is where the Icelands of this world also sit.

It obviously works for them, as they've built one right next to the Tescos where I live - many people (myself included) pop in there once a week to buy stuff that is either cheaper or better than the Tesco / Morrison's alternatives.

Are they, indeed. I've always found the staff very pleasant, which can be an indicator.

I'm just waiting for Firth's merry gang of stalkers to show up.

.. and I suspect that they will come to the conclusion, as Asda did, that the discount places are an irrelevance. If there were really a demand for this cheap palleted stuff, the discounters would have increased market share by now. They haven't to any meaningful degree in ten years, which is a fair indication that despite all their bluster, it is not going to happen any time soon.

Don't be even more ridiculous. A hell of a lot happens in three years.
