Oh, OK... I've actually ordered the ones you pointed me at earlier in this thread

They haven't arrived yet, but looking at the picture they seem to have fixing tabs which suggest they'd be flush mounted on the wall - is that not so? Should they be actually buried beneath the surface of the plaster then?

Sorry about the double posting earlier - don't know why that happened.

I'll answer my own post! - might be useful for the uk.d-i-y archives. The fire collars have just arrived, and the instructions show that in this case at least, the collars are indeed flush-mounted; and they also warn you not to use plastic rawlplugs etc for fixing, which would melt in a fire; and to use a special fireproof acrylic cement to make good the hole around the pipe.

(So, now I've got to go out and find some fireproof cement somewhere - why couldn't the internet-based supplier have mentioned that upfront?!)
