Pot kettle black.

TNP really doesn't like getting it back does he? I think he has had a stroke or something or maybe he is one of those that thinks he is now in the majority like harry?

It's quite short, really.

I advertised all the bits in various places, including Exchange and Mart. I sold pretty much all of it by mail order (I was at university in Canterbury, but travelling back to Brighton every weekend to a lucrative job). I'd pick up post and send bits off every weekend.

I had a letter about the frame (and logbook). There was an exchange of letters culminating in a guy saying that he'd travel down from Bromley and pick it up one weekend. Which he did.

A few weeks later the police called and asked if I'd had the bike stolen. I explained what I'd done, and they were fine with that. They told me the logbook was being used with a stolen bike in Bromley. They said "Don't suppose you remember the buyer's name?". I said I had letters written and signed by him, and their faces lit up. They took the letters, and as they left were muttering "wish all our cases were this easy".

That's had a heater or something plugged in, most probably?

I look at the tinfoil metal strips that distribute power within those cheapo 4-ways and wonder why they don't just melt.

That was a surge-protected strip used at a remote location 9000 ft high, prone to lightning strikes and with poor mains power.

The amusing thing was the "Surge protection working" light that stayed lit after the protection devices exploded. Note the two neons - one for power, one for protection "working".

I did after about 20,000 miles. Rust was already breaking out all over. Shame as it made a lovely noise and was fun to drive (like you stole it) otherwise.

Why have you got a 13A fuse for a 2kW heater? No wonder it didn't blow easily.

Those things are useless. You never know if they actually work, half the time the battery is flat, it's lost the connection, or it's ringing next door.

Because almost no one uses 7A fuses anymore...

7A isn't enough for 2kW, I would have used 10A.

And just because they aren't in Asda is not an excuse for not using them.

Maybe I just buy better cars...

Hang on 0.5litre is far less than the difference between 'full' and 'needing topping up' marks on the dipstick.

The better ones only use a wireless bell push, the battery in that lasts years, the internal bit can be plugged in wherever convenient and even taken outdoors with you, there is also a choice of frequencies, it is easy to check it works whenever you go out or come in.

Lets not bother with a car pissing contest, Honda 2.2 i-CTDi drunk more oil and always produced black clouds under acceleration, Audi 3.0 TDI drinks less oil, has never produced black clouds, changed to 9600 mile oil changes rather than 19200, so now usually gets away without a top-up between.

But just a comment really that modern diesels *do* drink a little oil.

No dipstick, electronic sensor, if you let it get down to min level it asks you to add 1.0 litre, obviously if you notice it dropping after a few months rather than actually get to min, you give it less ...

I aim for it to be below halfway when going in for service, given the price of the stuff.
