Radiator not getting hot

Just refitted the rad in the bathroom after redecoration, after turning on the supply's it only gets hot up to about half way up. On opening the bleed plug there is no air coming out, after using soapy water on the vent i can see a tiny amount of air bubbles. i have left it a good hour and as yet it is still the same. Any idea's as to how to get the thing to fill.

I assume there's no water coming out either?

I assume that you have a vented system, with a small header tank in the attic? The water level in this header is (supposed to be) maintained by a ball valve. If this is stuck due to infrequent use it is distinctly possible that you have emptied the tank by half filling your radiator. Go and have a look in the attic. If the tank *is* empty, you'll get air in the system - and the whole lot may stop circulating. If it is stuck, unstick it by pressing the ball down and releasing it. Once the level is restored (it only needs 2 or 3 inches in the bottom of the tank) have another go at bleeding your radiator.

Should have mentioned in the original post, its a combi boiler.

Is the CH pump running when you do the bleeding? If so try switching it off first.

Is this a sealed system or a vented system? If a sealed system then it needs refilling at the boiler. You should notice that your pressure needle is showing '0', or very low. If it is open the tap on the filling loop (usually a silver coloured braided flexible pipe under the boiler) until the pressure gauge arrow is back up to the marker pointer. Turn off the filling loop and rebleed the radiator. Check all the other radiators for air and then refill as before. You may need to redo this procedure after a day or so of use once any trapped air has circulated and found a radiater to hide in.

Its a sealed system and there is plenty of pressure in the system (about 1.5 bar). all the other rads bleed ok its just this one which does not. as the combi is in the bathroom and so is the rad i would of thought it should fill ok.

bleed screw fits in and it started letting lots of air out and eventually filled with water. it appears that the hole the bleed screw fits in is blocked, not sure how as i prodded a thin screwdriver down it. anyway its all ok now.
