Quick pipe fix...freezer spray?

Err. no. If I was forced to try this with the thing live, I'd buy the appropriate compression fitting new from

or somewhere, which as you say one of the lines dead ends in a meter, would be a straight coupler, or perhaps a t, with a pipe preassembled into it and a cap on the end of that, if you need the right angle.

Then I'd freeze the ends, and cut off the pipes flush with the T, with a fine toothed saw. Now, with a file, run round the edge of the pipe to remove burrs. Now, place the nut on, and place the olive on the pipe. Slide the pipe all the way into the t, and tighten up. Repeat with other nut.

Obtain cork of the appropriate diameter, as well as mole grips able to squash the pipe flat, in case it unfreezes on you unexpectedly.

Yes, he used a push-fit connector. Unfortunately, the flow of water dislodged one of the sealing rings. So, even though he managed to get it on the end of the pipe, it was still dripping. Hence, the call to the water company.

Oh right.

Well, dripping is a 'good' result I guess :)
