PVA .. will it seal damp damage ?

I have to deal with a large area 2sqm on wall papered ceiling that has suffered from a water leak from above.

A 1/3rd of the paper has fallen off and the rest will be removed. The plaster is badly stained but secure.

Can I use PVA as a stain blocker before I re paper considering the large amount to cover ?

thanks Harry .. the plan is to paint the plaster with PVA and then heavy lining paper to cover.

PVA coats should always be diluted, otherwise it tends to form a slick surface thats very hard to get paint to stick to.

Nothing on that link/page.

My intention is to paint the plaster before I paper and paint.

If you have a rust coloured water stain, it will bleed through pva. For that you need an oil based paint IME.

No - use an oil based paint

I had this problem at work recently, it was the only thing that actually worked
