PV panels update.

Had a look at rhe current situation due to the recent posts. Price paid for electricity is down by a half. But price of an installation is almost halved.

The expensive panel manufacurers have gone out of business. Leaves the Chineses and Indonesians etc. Are their panels any good? Dunno.

However, it means more people can now afford an array and will get the same return %wise.

shall get a 12%-13% return (=16%-17% if you pay tax).

But I have a good situation.

Main difference is, your house has to conform to an energy efficiency standard now. Seems to be, loft insulation, double glazing, cavity wall insulation, condensing boiler. (Level D or above)

get paid less if it isn't apparently.

The rate paid to early joiners is £0.455p/Kwh from April 1st with the RPI rise.

Bit here on amount installed, number of installations nationally etc.

You don't expect much more than a resounding "good" from the choir do you?

So it seems that although many mortgage companies were OK to let people lease their roofs, when it comes to remortgaging (e.g. when a fix term runs out), it's a no-go, and the only option you have is to fall back to your lender's standard repayment mortgage. Also a problem if you want to sell, as you need to find a cash buyer. One of the problems is repossessing a house with a leased roof is much more complicated, so mortgage companies aren't keen to go anywhere near these.

To get out of this, you have to negotiate a buy-out from your PV lease. In most cases, this will require you to buy the panels for twice what you could buy them for new today, although the case on the program the leaser offered a half price buy-out over what the contract stated.

Fortunately, we warned of this risk here a long time ago, as apparently did the RICS, so hopefully no one here has been bitten.
