+1 from me too.

We have the Panasonic thats on your list [2nd one we've bought]. Works well on wood AND carpet. [50/50 in our house] Pros: Self-adjusts. Powerful, good to the edge. pretty lightweight

cons bit noisy hose bit short when using tools, but still ok.

Agreed. We have had a Sebo for a few years which does an excellent job on the carpeted areas and seems fine on the tiled floors. There is also a noisy Earlex beast that handles any messy jobs.

I bought a dc04 because people said here they were great for connecting to wall chasers but like you, find actually attaching the hose is another matter!

I've got another one - wet or dry - for the messy jobs.

I agree with this. I won a new Dyson in a competition. It is very hard work on the stairs and using accessories as I'm not that strong and have to keep the hose out using considerable force. I hope the hose becomes easier in time, I am sure my old Dyson was hard going initially but much easier after many years of use. My daughter has my old one. If this new one doesn't get easier I may swap. I have a Henry at work. I am quite impressed with that too.

The contraction force is almost entirely due to the suction, so it would only reduce if suction had fallen off.

Thank you for that, Mike - it's a lot of cash!

VAX!

Not on ours. It's a stretchy hose. While SWMBO normally wants me to leave the vacuuming to her, I have to do the stairs (and machine maintenance)

VAX?

I am well aware. Just surprised that VAX as a "hoover" brand should be questioned.

Hence the quote "Nothing sucks like a VAX".

Ah, the one from Equip4Work is the fancy one - 2-speed motor and so on, but the same from Cleanstore is still a bit cheaper.

We have a DC04 and it hasn't died yet like the last couple of standard bagged uprights. Three of us with long hair and 2 cats probably is a good test for any. It's stopped picking up as well so I'm not sure if it needs a new roller as it gets the dust stuff up ok, just not cat fur. The henry does an excellent job though is much harder work.

You've used one, then? I've heard stories.

The 11/780 was quite a nice machine in it's day. Starlink consisted of a network of VAXes back in the 1980s.

Some of it is, some is also due to the coily spring. If you rotate the end of the hose you can reduce the contraction force.

Not shared with 200 other students all compiling the night before assignment submission it wasn't.

And having to use vecce when I'd been trained on WordStar wasn't fun either. Not for essays, anyway.
