Position for 13 amp cooker socket?

Planning to buy a new gas cooker that has a 13 amp plug.

Is there a recommended position for the required socket?

I have one low down near planned postion of cooker.

thanks for any advice.

Somewhere it will reach is most obvious. Where you put it is up to you. Was it a trick question?

No, but wondered about IEEE regulations.

See IEE "Electricians Guide to the Building Regulations " ISBN

978-08634-14633

2005 edition pp 56-57 show a diagram of a kitchen with advice on location of accessories in a kitchen.

The diagram shows a horizontal clearance of 300mm from the edge of a cooker to the edge of a 13A socket.

plus:

(ii) Cooker control switches.....should not be nounted so that it is necessary to lean or reach over gas or electric hobs for their operation.

(iii) Socket outlets should be installed a minimum of 450mm from the floor (& by (vi) at least 150mm above a worktop)

SFAIUI this is guidance on making a safe and apropriate installation which will be in reasonable compliance with the IEE regs but it is not a hard & fast ruling.

The regs suggest somewhere where it can't get damaged, and not so close the floor that the flex gets bent too harshly. Suggest a 13A socket low down at the back of the cooker, run from the socket to the standard cooker switch in

6mm T+E so if you go electric you just need to swap the front plate...

I usually position sockets for stationary appliances (cookers, washing/dishwashing machines, fridge/freezers, etc) at the back of an ajacent kitchen unit, with a hole at the top rear of the side of the unit to pass the plug and flex through, and a hole at the rear of the unit for the socket. If this ends up under the sink, it's a good idea to use an outdoor socket of the type which remains waterproof when in use.
