Plumbing stuff update.

Can't recall who recommended these Basin Mate things on the group, but thank you;

I ordered one to try, & used it today on a right bugger of a job - it worked a treat. Four attempts to tighten & seal the poxy Wickes waste & loads of LSX failed - this sorted it first time.

Just ordered half a dozen.

And someone was asking about the taps that come with flexible connectors, with swivel nut connectors. The worry was that they wouldn't seal on a service valve.

These seem designed for the job (although I've never had a problem);

So I've ordered some of those as well.

Hmmmm... Not sure I follow how that works. Can you explain what it is? I can't even work out what size it is.

hmmm.. Again, can't see quite what they are for. Do they fit onto a tap connector to give something that normal compression/pushfit plumbing fits?

Maybe I'm being particularly thick this evening :-) I got lost in Doctor Who as well :-)

32mm or inch & a quarter in old money. 'Basin' as opposed to sink.

Have a look here

Lots of taps these days come with flexible tap tails. They should fit onto a male/male compression joint or an isolating valve. The concern is, that the face of the compression joint or isolating valve may not be flat & therefore they won't seal.

The threaded end fits the flexy tap tail & the other end fits the compression joint or isolating valve.

I had to give up on that years ago :-)

That looks a very good idea.

I had no trouble with a Bathstore.com basin and bath - but there was anice mating surface and a decent rubber washer. But that widget does look interesting.

A compression will not work on those - there's no "give" to allow the olive to bite. I made that mistake on a similar widget that was an MDPE to copper joint (I wanted slim and discrete - not the usualy massive black affair)

Push fit would probably work - or solder a coupler then a stub of pipe on.

It does say "For use with Swivel nut connections on flexible tap tails. Ensures washer fits flat, securing seal. Fits into a standard 15mm isolating valve".

A "standard" 15mm isolating valve would be compression surely?

I'll soon find out :-)

That BasinMate looks like the bit that I always feel is missing! Must get a couple (one for the job I'm doing very soon and one for stock).

Is the tube wall thin? The MDPE one I had was seriously thick brass - when I tried compression, it seemed to hold - then when I poked it it fell off (water was not yet on thankfully!)

Don't know, haven't got them yet - I'll post when they arrive.
