Plugin mcb for old cu

We have a small flat and I've been looking to upgrade the electrics,

The wiring looks in good condition and also the wiring within the CU is clean and properly run (is not just a jungle of wires). The CU is an 8 way Wylex Code (804/N). It has 7 wired fuse carriers in there plus one that has been replaced with a 32A plugin mcb. Is it ok to replace the other 7 with similar MCB's? (If I can find them somewhere)!

Also, the cover that should go over the fuses on the CU is missing. Do the regulation require the cover is present (The CU is sited way up above an external door to the flat)

It would be a huge task to rewire the flat just becuase the CU is not "native" mcb" so I hope I can upgrade. The wiring is red n black! thanks

In any case the cover is often missing as it won't close over breakers only fuses in my experience. Brian

Yes. I have a similar Wylex CU which was originally fuses but has had the plug-in MCBs fitted. The wiring is perfect, I've brought the cross bonding up to scratch and have replaced most of the sockets, so reckon it's good for another 20 years.

Ebay has millions of them. Search for "Wylex plug in MCB"

The cover won't go on when MCBs are fitted, don't worry about it.
